The Judith Dawn Memorial Fund for the Arts was created to recognize and support sexual assault and abuse survivors who are interested in pursuing artistic endeavors as a continuation of the life-long healing process. A total of $5000 is available each funding year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

My name is Venus Johnson and I am a sexual abuse survivor. I was molested at the ages of 8 and 10 by a family friend and a cousin. I am also a survivor of date rape that resulted in a pregnancy.

I would like to spread awareness of the signs to look for as a parent including but not limited to changes in behavior, childhood depression and self hatred. Although children show signs in many different ways I will like to teach them to actively look and pay attention to any changes.

Today, I’m married and a proud parent of a 21 year old college student. I want to help heal the wounds of this horrific attack and allow young boys and girls that they too can live a healthy prosperous life after the storm.

    Thank you for your time.

    Venus Johnson
